Historical statements of statues.

In an effort to make our shared narrative more inclusive and equitable, communities across the country have begun revising the symbols that shape public memory. One of the most visible changes has been the removal of statues honoring enslavers and Confederate generals—figures once enshrined in bronze, now reconsidered through the lens of justice and historical accountability. This shift is not merely about subtraction. It’s also about rediscovery and recognition. Across the nation, cities and towns are reclaiming stories that were long marginalized—those of African Americans, Indigenous peoples, and others whose contributions and struggles were too often omitted from the official record.
